POSTING SCHEDULE CHANGE

We established linden-would one year ago and with rare exception have maintained our Monday through Friday posting schedule. We will now deviate from that schedule as follows: We plan to post Saturday, Sunday and Monday, with no posting on Tuesday, Election Day. Our normal schedule will probably resume on Wednesday.

Linden has often heard the Obama promise of no tax increase for those making less than $250,000.00 per year. Linden did not believe that promise and noted that there was no mention of the tax increase that will affect every taxpayer if the Bush tax cuts are allowed to expire.
Lately, the $250,000.00 figure was dropped to $200,000.00 and even more recently to $150,000.00. Is Linden wrong in thinking that this is not a sign of a very well thought out tax plan?

The current issue of Waste Watch, the publication of Citizens Against Government Waste, reported that 106 bills had been enacted to this point in 2008. Of these, 94 were of practically no significance. These people are well paid! Is this the change that those who voted for this democrat controlled Congress desired?

OOPS

Linden was somewhat rushed as he prepared the Thursday Posting (today too) and did not complete his list of predictions. Here are four more he expects if Obama is elected:

1. Radical Islam will expand even more rapidly.

2. There will be absolutely no restriction on abortion.

3. Unionization of small business will be forced.

4. Euthanasia will become a reality.

Linden has never understood the spell the democrats has cast over the Jewish and black voting blocks. The democrats have certainly been no friend of Israel and, since the start of “The Great Society” programs, we have witnessed the disintegration of the black family. Click on the following to read a very good article:

LINDEN'S LIFE:
Monday: Had several phone calls, read a great deal and received a mailing from TCM: It contained an article written by a Russian and another by an American couple. I had met and spent time with all of them in Austria. I sent the Russian girl (every female under age 65 or so is a girl to Linden) an email. Hope the address is still good.

Tuesday: Had a doctor appointment that was pain free. Bill and Peggy Frisbie invited Enoch, Hayford and myself to their house for dinner. Bill’s sister, Susan, was there also when we arrived. Great dinner and great visit. One of the fun things we did was that the four of us followed Enoch and Hayford, in a kind of conga line dance, as they sang a tribal religious song. It was great. Susan sent me home with some persimmon pudding: One of my favorite treats. This was a very good. Day.

Wednesday: Had my “Study Buddy” session with my second grade student and purchased the prescriptions the doctor had ordered - it is still early but they may be working.
Among the emails were ones from Russia, Austria, Wisconsin and one from daughter, Julie that sounded good. The friend in Wisc. Mentioned our Bulgarian friend and some possible good news on that front that I have prayed about.
Dinner and program at Church. Shirley brought me a coconut pie that I had ordered as part of a mission related fund raising effort. I love coconut pie. Also, Nancy, who had bought three of my books and my CD which I had contributed to TCM for their fund raising banquet. She said she enjoyed what she has read so far. I’ll be glad for her to report on the CD.
These three days have left me feeling really blest.

PREDICTIONS

These predictions are just some of Linden’s thoughts regarding aspects of The American Tragedy if Obama is elected President.

1. Taxes will be raised for those who pay taxes.

2. The Bush tax cuts will expire, thereby raising taxes further.

3. In an effort to buy their votes, the percentage of those paying no taxes will increase.

4. Racial tensions will increase dramatically.

5. The stock market will not recover in Linden’s lifetime.

6. A full fledged and long lasting depressing is quite possible.

7. There will be no investigation of those congressional members who are responsible for the housing crisis.

8. Our Constitution will continue to be attacked.

9. Talk radio (free speech) will be curtailed.

10. 401k funds will be stolen by the government.

11. Gun possession will be attacked.

12. Thoughts about overthrowing the government will spread.

13. Business will suffer mightily.

14. Those responsible for this disaster will wonder what wrecked our government.

ADOLPH OBAMA?

Yesterday Linden’s posting touched upon whether or not Barack Obama is legally qualified by birth to be president of our great country.

Later in the day, Linden received a forwarded email that drew parallels between Hitler’s rise to power roughly 75 years ago and the current campaign of Barack Obama. Each of these two recited the “hope” and “change” mantra, encouraged the children to idolize them in song and possess(ed) little regard for human life. If you wish to receive a copy of this email, let Linden know at:
LWDcomment@aol.com

It is impossible for Linden to understand the thought process (if any) of those who profess to love our country and still support Obama. Harder still is it to understand relatives and those personal friends who hold Linden and those he loves in such low regard that they would endanger him, them, and our country.

GOD save us!

OBAMA LEGAL CITIZENSHIP STATUS

Although Linden was aware of some questions regarding this posting subject, he, thinking that surely the Republicans would make an issue of it if there were a chance of validity, did not investigate the subject until after receiving a phone call last Thursday.

An Internet inquiry, using this posting title, revealed some interesting material. You may wish to make the same inquiry and read “Obama’s Crime”, “Legal Fight over Obama’s Citizenship Boils”, “Obama Natural Born Citizen Status Lawsuit”, and others.

Later, Linden was referred to another interesting writing, “Has Sen. Obama’s Hawaii Trip Detoured Through The Hawaii Supreme Court?” by David Hinz which appeared on the www.redstate.com site.

LINDEN THINKS:
Obama did not go to Hawaii because of his grandmother.
The DNC and, to a lesser degree, the RNC should have resolved this matter before now.
Hopefully the U.S. will be spared the disaster of Obama being elected and then being found ineligible.
Expect dishonesty and an ineffective judicial approach.
One must question the value of a Harvard law degree.

LINDEN'S LIFE:
Thursday: Did a couple loads of wash and worked outside for a while. Enoch and Hayford returned to the Mission House from their travels and I jump-started the car of their traveling companion.

Friday: Biscuits and gravy at Men’s Prayer Breakfast. Went to the credit union, post office and store. Prepared the quarterly sales tax report for the writing and publishing effort: Linden is never gonna be rich.

Saturday: A really lazy day – read a great deal and listened to Indiana University have one of its rare football wins.

Sunday: Church, Sunday school, brunch with friends, paper reading, a nap and evening services at church. Two men involved with church planting gave a presentation. One of them has planted a church for immigrants from India in New York City.

ARE YOU A PROTESTANT

Actually, Linden should have named both yesterday’s and today’s posting something like “Are you a decent person with strong morals and a foundation in Christian belief?” But this posting is not about Linden; it is about a great article written by Kyle-Anne Shiver that appeared in American Thinker on October 22. Linden strongly recommends it for your consideration and forwarding of this note to those who may not normally read my postings.

Linden’s favorite line is:

As for me and my Catholic vote, I would sooner cast it for Satan himself than Barack Obama.

LINDEN'S LIFE:
Monday: Did some paperwork and reading. In the evening I helped with the Upward Basketball evaluation process at Church: I did the defensive movement timing.

Tuesday: Coffee with the guys at 8:00. Enoch had called earlier to say that his Internet connection at the Mission House was not working. Talked a bit to the Salvation Army crew that was here to pick up those many, many items which were not sold at the Saturday garage sale. They had and needed a large truck. I may not have mentioned earlier that this sale raised over $8,000.00 for Rapha House in Cambodia. There is hope for our youth. I had called Aaron earlier and he came over in the evening and now Enoch’s computer should have access.

Wednesday: Had a session with my second grade Study Buddy at 9:00 – I asked her to write a story for our meeting next week. From school, I went to Chick-fil-A for biscuits and gravy and, of course, coffee. Mailed what I hope will be the contents of my next book to the printer. Had my flu shot at Church and, later, dinner and program there.

IS BIDEN PRESIDENTIAL MATERIAL?

Linden has so often heard or read this question in regard to Governor Sarah Palin that it seems only fair to ask it of the other candidate for Vice President. Perhaps we should ask it of his running mate, as well.

Having heard or read about the many errors in judgment Biden has made in his position on the Foreign Relations Committee, having heard several of his campaign gaffes, his statement that Obama, if elected, can expect testing by foreign nations was no surprise. The observation is probably true but it is a demonstration of a running mates lack of judgment.

Now, another question for you: Which of the four candidates possesses the most real executive experience? If you failed to answer, “Governor Sarah Palin,” your education has been stunted. You may even think Biden is qualified!

CAREFUL COLIN

The Obama endorsement by Colin Powell created quite a stir in the news media. It neither surprised nor impressed Linden. Of course, he has long thought that Powell is about as much a Republican as Linden is an astronaut.

Powell was quoted as saying about Obama: I think he is a transformational figure. He is a new generation… coming onto the world stage, onto the American stage, and for that reason, I’ll be voting for Senator Barack Obama,”

May Linden remind you that Hitler, Stalin and Jimmy Carter were transformational figures. Powell displayed some pretty weak reasoning for a thinking man.

Rush Limbaugh, Linden’s favorite news source, said that the Powell endorsement was all about race. Rush is rarely wrong.

STRIKE ONE ON YOU?

Linden’s last seven postings were entitled “Strike One thru Strike Seven On Obama.” Often included was the notation, “Linden is well aware that it is normally three strikes and you are out. However, in this instance, in order to avoid any hint of racial bias, Linden decided to allow Obama extra strikes. After all, in this case “out” means determined to be unfit for public office.”

The strikes on Obama centered on his judgment in the following areas:
1. Relationship with an unrepentant terrorist.
2. Relationship with an America hating preacher.
3. Relationship with an undesirable organization.
4. Relationship with a now convicted shady character.
5. Relationship with another suspect “man of the cloth.”
6. Support for abortion and post abortion murder.
7. Support for those who caused the current financial crisis.

Now, to you. If the above is not sufficient to cause you to support Obama’s opponent, it is strike one on you and it is, regardless of your color, one strike an you’re out: Out of your mind!

LINDEN'S LIFE:
Thursday: The normal group of five breakfast meeting. Just various small tasks the rest of the day.

Friday: Men’s Prayer Breakfast at 6:00. Has scrambled eggs, perhaps the best pork chop ever and fried apples that were almost as good as the pork chop. Anver had locked his keys in his truck so; I took him home to get his spare set. Worked several hours, much harder than is normal for me, helping to get ready for the garage sale tomorrow.

Saturday: A prayer breakfast at Kingsway at 7:30. Helped a bit more to get ready for the garage sale and bought a few items after they opened for business. I am so proud of our high school students for having this sale to help the abused in Cambodia. Mike took me to the TCM banquet in Indianapolis: Great food, great program for a really great organization.

Sunday: Church and Sunday School. The young lady from The Ukraine/Austria who was the principal speaker last night also spoke at our evening church services.

STRIKE SEVEN ON OBAMA

Judgment: Financial Crisis. Again, Linden is well aware that it is normally three strikes and you are out. However, in this instance, in order to avoid any hint of racial bias, Linden decided to allow Obama extra strikes. After all, in this case “out” means determined to be unfit for public office.

A great number of people are concerned about what impact the current financial crisis will have on the remainder of their lives and that of those they love. Linden may be included in that concerned group.

Granted, the stage was set for the sub prime loan granting process to wreak havoc on the well being of many throughout the world by congressional actions (or lack thereof) primarily before Obama set foot on those hallowed halls in D.C.

However, because of his close association with many of the sleaze balls who were involved in many peripheral activities of this horror story, he can not be held blameless. Having, at one time stated that this approach to lending had been a good thing, it is understandable that he made no effort to stop the runaway train.

This is the last in this series of postings that have investigated the fitness for office of Barack Obama: The forthcoming compilation will deliver the verdict.
----
THE 10-16-08 DEBATE:

The following judges the “winner” in answering each of eight questions plus a closing comment:
1. Financial: McCain introduced “Joe The Plumber.”
2. Deficit: McCain “Hold the line on spending.”
3. Nasty Campaign: Obama lied, McCain provided examples.
4. Running Mate Qualified: McCain provided examples of Biden shortcomings and Palin strengths.
5. Energy and Climate Change: McCain, drill now.
6. Health Care: Neither adequately explained.
7. Overturn Roe v. Wade: O – no, M – Y.
8. Education Cost/Benefit. No memorable answer.

In Linden’s opinion, McCain was the more convincing in all except #6, which was a tie. In addition McCain gets extra points for not using the words bi-partisan at all and for saying “My friends” only once.

Some professional pundits called Obama the winner: They are wrong. Again.

STRIKE SIX ON OBAMA

Judgment: Obama and Born Alive: Again, Linden is well aware that it is normally three strikes and you are out. However, in this instance, in order to avoid any hint of racial bias, Linden decided to allow Obama extra strikes. After all, in this case “out” means determined to be unfit for public office.

It has been said that in 1999 it was discovered that an Illinois hospital was letting babies die in a utility room after their attempted abortion was botched.

It has also been said that Barack Obama, as a state legislator, was not in favor of those bills which provided legal protection to all babies who were born alive.

In Linden’s opinion this opposition by Obama is entirely different than being opposed to abortion before delivery. IT IS, WITHOUT A DOUBT, CONDONING MURDER!

If it is murder, how can any believing Christian vote for Obama? If you approve of murder, how much worse is a murderer? Your Judgment Day is coming!

LINDEN'S LIFE:
Monday: Did some (but not nearly enough) paperwork, visited the bookstore and did a load of wash.

Tuesday: Attended GOP Roundtable breakfast. Corresponded with both Brian and Julie. Aaron came by to check on the Internet connection work he had completed in the Mission House – saw no problem and left Enoch a note. Enoch called me later to say that he now has Internet access.

Wednesday: Had my first “Study Buddy” session of the year: A girl who is in the second grade – it was enjoyable. Had another very pleasant lunch with Jan. I rarely use my cell phone – often do not know where it is and do not know my number. The provider called to straighten out some updating problem and we were on the phone at least an hour – I do not have time for such nonsense. In the evening, ate dinner at Church and attended one of the following programs. It was really dark when I returned home: I fell while going to the Mission House to pick up my clean and dry clothes. I suppose a flashlight would not be a bad investment. I ended the day by watching the McCain – Obama debate.

STRIKE FIVE ON OBAMA

Judgment: Obama – “Father” Michael Pfleger association. Again, Linden is well aware that it is normally three strikes and you are out. However, in this instance, in order to avoid any hint of racial bias, Linden decided to allow Obama extra strikes. After all, in this case “out” means determined to be unfit for public office.

The Obama – Pfleger association, or friendship, probably goes back about 20 years. During those years, Pfleger provided some fund raising and other support for Obama and Obama’s support of Pfleger included a large grant for his church.

Both have claimed Louis Farrakhan as a friend. Depending upon your standards, you may wish to check out this association. You do have standards: Right?

STRIKE FOUR ON OBAMA

Judgment: Tony Rezko association. First, Linden is well aware that it is normally three strikes and you are out. However, in this instance, in order to avoid any hint of racial bias, Linden decided to allow Obama extra strikes. After all, in this case “out” means determined to be unfit for public service.

The Obama – Rezko association, or friendship goes back about 18 years. During those years Rezko provided some political fund raising assistance to Obama and Obama helped Rezko to become known as a slum landlord.

Some eyebrows were raised by the Rezko involvement in the 2004 Obama senate campaign and even more were raised by the 2005 incidents associated with the purchase of the Obama home.

Now that Rezko has been convicted of a majority of the 24 corruption related charges brought against him, it may be time to question Obama’s judgment. Are your standards higher?

STRIKE THREE ON OBAMA

Judgment: Decency/ACORN. What kind of judgment and/or moral decency do you think a person possesses if, over a long, long, period of time they have maintained a close association or working and funding relationship with an organization such as ACORN?

Once again ACORN is embroiled in suspected election fraud in a number of States. Linden is pretty sure that the number mentioned in this particular go round is 15 States.

Barack Obama has, in Linden’s opinion, made a career choice to closely associate with this discredited organization. Information on both ACORN and the Obama association with it, is readily available if you care enough about your own standards to seek to know.

On a final note in this regard: What do you think of an organization (Congress) who has so little regard for those they represent that they year after year approve the transfer of taxpayer funds to an organization that is involved in tearing down the underpinnings of our great country?
-----

LINDEN’S LIFE:
Thursday: Had the usual enjoyable breakfast meeting with the guys and followed that with the “Golden Glows” pitch-in luncheon at Church. Good food good program. I went to the Mission House with the computer guru and he installed a connection. I replaced a front porch light bulb while there.

Friday: Men’s Prayer Breakfast at 6:00. Later, went by the bookstore and also got my hand vacuum cleaner repaired. Did some reading and paperwork.

Saturday: Took several items to the barn for the upcoming High School class yard sale for the benefit of Rapha House. They have received many donations. Listened to the Indiana U. football game: Another loss.

Sunday: Church and Sunday School, visited a bit there while drinking coffee before coming home. Watched the Colts win a football game. Went to evening services: Enoch and Hayford, who are here from Ghana, presented most of the program.

STRIKE TWO ON OBAMA

Judgment: Jeremiah Wright. What kind of judgment would you believe an ordinary person possesses if they have an extremely close personal relationship, for a period of 20 years or more, with a church leader who preaches racial hatred and calls for God to damn America?

What if this is not an ordinary person at all, but a person under consideration for the office of President of the United States?

What would you think of the judgment of a person who would cast their vote for a person who is so friendly (until it became a news item) with a person who calls for God to damn America?

Regardless of the election, Judgment Day is approaching!

STRIKE ONE ON OBAMA

Judgment: What kind of judgment would you believe an ordinary person possesses if they have a friendly relationship over a long period of time with a person who had willingly, knowingly and unrepentantly engaged in terrorist actions against your country?

What if this terrorist was married to a woman who had joined him in these loathsome acts?

What if this is not an ordinary person at all, but a person under consideration for the office of President of the United States?

What would you think of the judgment of a person who would cast their vote for a person who is friendly with an enemy of the country they seek to “serve”?

Just so you will know the thinking of this writer, Linden does not think highly of the judgment of Barack Obama or of those who support him. Linden believes that William Ayers and his wife should have been convicted of treason and executed.

LINDEN'S LIFE:
Monday: Linden arose early, bought some donuts and took them to Voter Registration in Danville and was, once again, the first person in Hendricks County to vote. Later, bought some netting to keep the leaves out of the goldfish pond and talked to the two ministers from Ghana who will be staying in the Mission House for a time. One of them, who had been here before with his wife, gave me two chocolate bars that were made in Ghana. Love chocolate!

Tuesday: Met some guys for early morning coffee, called Rubye’s sister who lives in Virginia and sang “happy birthday” to her. Helped unload some items that are intended for the garage sale that our high school group is going to have for the benefit of Rapha House in Cambodia. The proceeds will be used to buy the freedom and provide housing for young Cambodian girls who have been sold into slavery.

Wednesday: Had biscuits and gravy at Chick-fil-A, went by the credit union and visited a bit in the Mission House. Had dinner at Church and went to a study buy left about 20 minutes early – I had forgotten to take my medicine and got to feeling less than perfect.

DEBATE LAST NIGHT

The debate was a disappointment. From the lackluster effort of the moderator to Obama dancing and dancing (good dancer) to McCain failing to use or create openings which would illustrate to all but the most dedicated Obama lover the shortcomings of BO, the “debate” was hardly worth watching. And, Linden was disappointed.

One thing is now clearly etched in Linden’s mind: Governor Sarah Palin is clearly the class of the four who are involved in this contest and just may have the gumption it would take to steer John McCain out of the shoals that will face any leader of this great country. Actually, another thing is clear: Choosing a sitting Senator to be President is a bad idea with the only thing worse being choosing two of them as a team.

Linden was unimpressed with the first question and the answers but the second question/answer solidified his low opinion of Obama. The question was “who will you name as Treasury Secretary.” McCain answered, “Meg Whitman” and then hazarded a guess that Obama might consider Warren Buffett. Obama said that Buffet would not be a bad choice then went into his “Bush is bad” oft repeated standard answer. He never answered the question! This became standard.

Linden would have loved to hear a learned discussion of the probability that Barney Frank, Chris Dodd, Barack Obama, Franklin Raines and other leading democrats were, through their active support of Fanny Mae and Freddie Mac forcing banks to make inappropriate loans, largely responsible for the current worldwide financial crisis and the lessened hopes that individual investors and pension plans have for their financial future. It was not to be!

Of course, those mentioned in the preceding paragraph were very well paid for their failure and dishonesty. Come on Sarah!

REALISTIC HOPE?

Rest assured, Linden is being honest with you when he says that he has been very disappointed with the lack of fight evidenced by the McCain campaign. There have been many, many opportunities to attack the dishonesty and utter lack of some of the more desirable attributes by those of the opposition. To be fair, Governor Palin has shown willingness and ability to mix it up.

If Linden never hears the expression “bi-partisan” again, it will be an unexpected blessing. In his opinion, it generally means surrender of a desirable conservative viewpoint.

News blurbs of the last few days have led Linden to believe that McCain may be adjusting his thinking to some degree and it appears that Governor Palin may be given the ok to forcefully point out some shortcomings of the opposition.

In spite of the miserably poor approach to campaigning that has been the norm to this point, there is still reason for hope if an aggressive campaign is adopted.

ONE MONTH

It is roughly just one month to go until election day and Linden is starting to get very nervous. In all his years of being associated with political matters, he can not remember any campaign that has so convinced him that many democrats are a lower class of being.

Linden has long believed that most of that group have no real logical reason for being part of the group but are extremely adept at becoming irritated when questioned or presented with the opportunity to pursue thinking to which they are not accustomed.

In spite of the countless MSM articles and programs engaged in writing and saying a litany of untrue charges against Sarah Palin, she managed to conduct herself very well in her debate against the extremely liberal VP nominee. Governor Palin has more executive experience that the other three nominees combined and has performed admirably in the offices to which she has been elected.

Linden fears greatly for the future of this country if Governor Palin and Senator McCain are not selected. But, if it is true that over 90% of the black voters will, as usual, vote for the democrats and that groups such as ACORN (think Obama) are securing illegal or otherwise not entitled voters for the democrats, coupled with the possibility of a large block of gullible youths who think “change” and “good” are synonymous, we have the possibility of a national disaster approaching.

LINDEN'S LIFE:
Thursday: Bill, Chuck, Jack, Paul and I were joined at breakfast by Valik Siniy and Yuri Mark. They are representatives of Tavriski Christian Institute in Kerson, Ukraine. They fit in very nicely with our group and we all enjoyed the time together.
I picked up and delivered some political signs, including one to a former State Police associate. He gave me an “Indiana Telephone News” booklet dated September of 1958 that had a picture of me in it as part of a State Police story.

Friday: Had the usual early morning Men’s Prayer Breakfast; purchased a new set of tires; discovered a bathroom heat switch that any dummy would have found earlier; worked a little around the pond; heard Jade make some gurgling noises as I talked to Julie and talked to Brian also. Good day.

Saturday: Men’s Prayer Breakfast at Kingsway church; bought a pie and some very expensive vitamins that were recommended by the eye doctor I saw Wednesday. Went to a Republican BBQ at the Danville Fairgrounds and stayed to hear our impressive Governor speak – then, hurried to my Sunday school class pitch in dinner. Good food and entertainment: I took a pie that I purchased earlier in the day.

Sunday: Church, Sunday school, brunch with friends, paper reading, a short nap, watched some football and went to evening church services. Then, called Lisa, Rubye’s daughter in Maine, for a mostly pleasant talk.

CURRENT CRISIS #4

GERMANENESS: In Indiana, there is a requirement in the legislative process that amendments must be germane to the primary subject of the bill they address. Although there is probably a certain amount of “fudging” allowed, Linden believes that the limitations are well intentioned and should be emulated at the federal level.

In recent days, much has been written, including some by Linden, about various aspects of what has been described as a financial crisis. Can you believe that the bill addressing this matter started as being about four pages long and ended up at over 400 pages? This means that there must have been about 395 pages of trash in the final product. Trash such as addressing matters related to rum producers, arrow makers, wool, auto racing and film & TV. Can you believe that these clowns are our employees? Perhaps a more serious effort to replace the deadwood should be initiated. Term limits anyone?

CURRENT CRISIS #3

THE MAIN STREAM MEDIA. If you, gentle reader are even halfway observant, you will have noted a very strong MSM bias against Republicans in general and, most specifically, the McCain/Palin ticket. Linden does recognize that you may not be observant.

The Charlie Gibson interview, in the opinion of this writer, was a total sham if the intention was to present him as an unbiased interviewer. I understand that the actions of the Couric person were even more so. Of course you already know that Linden has a strong dislike for almost everything that appears on the “network” stations. So, I saw none of that appearance. Linden needs to watch that particular program so he can start boycotting the products which are advertised there.

The idea of having Gwen Ifill moderate the debate which will be aired tonight, is absolutely ridiculous. She is, in Linden’s opinion, more biased than he and has a much wider audience to try to influence. I understand that she had an Obama endorsement type book debut yesterday: Linden will probably never have a copy of that monument to poor judgment.

LINDEN'S LIFE:
Monday: prepared some computer documents, went to grocery, worked harder than normal at chopping out some roots, did some wash, took some items to Church for them to pass on to others, stock market really fell so, for the first time in a long, long time, I bought some stock, the “bailout bill” failed (good) and I talked to Brian for a time.
Tuesday: Had some problems with MS Word while preparing to post the blog, went to the post office and dollar store, put license plate on the car - it was the last day to do so, more work around the goldfish pond – surely I will have it ready for winter soon. I’m not ready. Did some bathroom cleaning and some ironing. Quite a little homebody.
Wednesday: Arose at 5:00 to post blog and, as usual, listened to classical music while doing so. They played a beautiful orchestral rendition of Verdi’s Cara Nome from Rigoletto. It is one of my favorite pieces: It always makes me think of an injured bird fluttering down from the sky. Paul Gunning took me to the eye specialist: The report was not as good as I had hoped it would be. The bad left eye, where I only have peripheral vision, is as good as it is going to be and the good (oxymoron) right eye has the start of macular degeneration. Dinner at Church followed by a study period. Saw Jack Burlison, among others, there: He started with the Indiana State Police 52 years ago today and that is when we first met: I had started six months earlier.

CURRENT CRISIS #2

OIL: Although the per barrel price has fallen appreciably since President Bush announced his support for expanded drilling, maybe two months ago. It would have fallen much more if the democrats had concern for those who pay the price. Concern for taxpayers and common people is not high on their list.

In fact, the oil price would have never approached the high prices we have seen if we had been half way adequately represented. To buckle to pressure and not allow refineries to refine or drillers to drill is the sole reason we are enriching so many countries that are not hampered by the kind of representation we are hampered with.

Linden believes that in this regard (and several others) our only hope is that the McCain/Palin ticket is successful. It will be small solace for me and those I hold most dear if the least well qualified duo should win and I would know that it was in spite of my effort.
