MEMORIAL DAY/WEEK

MEMORIAL DAY/WEEK
Linden is using this rare Saturday posting to inform you that he will not post again before Saturday, June 5. Then he will resume his normal Monday thru Friday posting schedule. During this week, he would encourage you to view the list of songs below and to use the associated date of posting to find and listen to those you choose.

The first of the two songs highlighted today brought tears to Linden’s eyes…listen to it.

LINDEN'S LIFE
As usual, attended the early morning Men’s Prayer Breakfast. It was nice to hear from the guys who just returned from the annual golf outing that they still award an 8 X 10 blowup of the picture that appears on my blog. It was taken in about 1998 and shows me with my suitcase looking dejected and sitting in front of a sold nursing home. I love that picture…it is called “The Linden H. Swift Memorial Last Place Award”. Had a late lunch with Larry who is up for the race. His 64th. We worked together on the State Police over 40 years ago. Nice visit.

RANDOM THOUGHTS
Perhaps it is because Linden is a veteran or perhaps he is slightly biased but, he considers Obama missing the Memorial Day ceremonies at Arlington Cemetery to be a slap in the face of all veterans.

There is talk of another major expenditure being planned as a “stimulus.” Considering the complete lack of success that the first “stimulus” provided, it is no surprise that the democrat leadership would plan another such waste of money.

In line with the above thought, it seems that at a cost of about one half billion dollars something over one thousand National Guard members will be sent to the Mexican border to, Linden believes, do essentially nothing.

Linden titled his April 27 posting, “Impeachable?”. The subject of impeachment has now been raised by others because of someone in the administration apparently offering Senatorial candidate Sestak something to keep him from running against Specter.

LINDEN'S LIFE
I met with the Thursday breakfast bunch at 8:00, did some running around and was back home before noon. Finished off the box of chocolates that Dimi had sent me from Austria…where chocolate is concerned, I have no self control. In my “other involvements” section below, I’ve added two more organizations to the list of those I support and deleted reference to the bookstore that I hoped would handle my book and CD sales. Gonna have to figure out a way to turn it on the last half of the year.
Since I plan to take a few days off starting Monday, I will make one of my rare postings on Saturday so you will have something to keep yourself occupied until I return to five-day-a-week posting, probably the following Saturday.

TRY JOE
Linden will not now lie to you, he would much rather try Sarah. But, with Obama vacationing (again) surely that leaves Joe Biden in charge of top level decision making in our country. Sickening thought but it has been worse. If Joe would properly address some of the problems within our country, these could be his words.

“To the people affected by the gulf oil spill…please know that the Army Corps Of Engineers have been directed to lend all possible assistance, the Louisiana Governor has been given permission to attempt to limit the incursion of the oil, any reasonable request for assistance will be granted and the best minds available will be assigned to help in curtailing the oil flow. Further, I would like to apologize for the asinine words and lack of positive direction from our President.”

“To the people of the great State of Arizona…please know that the Federal Government will attempt to enforce the immigration laws that are now in effect, you are to be commended for stepping up when this Federal Government has failed you, we will demand an apology from the President of Mexico for his ill conceived remarks and we will cause those in Congress who appeared to support him to be censured. Further…I would like to apologize for the asinine words and lack of positive direction and support from our President.”

“To the people of our country who are concerned about the adverse effect on future generations caused by passage of the “stimulus” bill…please know we will bend every effort to reverse all waste and payoffs that are contained in that legislation.”

“To the people who are concerned about the probable detrimental effect of the “healthcare” bill…please know that we will attempt to start over and will insist that the final corrective bill will contain no more than 100 pages.”

“Tomorrow we will identify other areas where you have not been properly represented.”

ECCLESIASTES
Written by Solomon hundreds of years before the coming of JESUS CHRIST, it is a study of the meaning of life. It is not a “happy” book…many references to everything being meaningless and “all is vanity” provide a glimpse of the true meaning of life when one is without CHRIST.

The final chapters are much more positive and include some very good advice as well as references to the importance of having GOD in your life.

WHAT SHOULD ONE DO?
The particulars regarding the goons of SEIU acting unlawfully appears in a link below. The question is…what should one do if their neighborhood, more particularly their home, is attacked in this manner and the local law enforcement agency fails to act?

I suppose Linden would recommend also calling County and State law enforcement and 911. That is about the extent unless one has access to major weapons of self defense and is willing to use them. Certainly the incident should be followed by making ever effort to hold those involved legally accountable.

We live in dangerous times, primarily because of those who supported President Obama.

Went by the church office, the post office and the grocery. Dan and Russ came by and put stone in the walkway leading to my front door. Very nice. They did some other work around the place.
Received a note from AARP saying that for $16.00 I could become a member…when I contribute to an anti-American democrat I may then consider contributing to AARP.
Received an e-mail note showing a Texas sign showing Obama’s picture and the words, “VOTED OBAMA?…EMBARRASSED YET?” Good question.

BAD NEWS...GOOD NEWS
The bad news is that Obama, the SEIU thug, is still in the White House and has no rational idea as to how to address illegal immigration.

The good news is that Charles Djou, a Republican, won the special election in Hawaii. Not often are we blessed with a Republican from Hawaii serving in the capital of our nation. This is of almost the same significance as Scott Brown winning in Massachusetts.

On Friday, Valek and Yuri from The Ukraine spoke at our Men’s Prayer Breakfast – it was good to see them again on this trip. I searched for the key to my safe deposit box for about three hours before finding it.
Saturday, I went to the grocery and post office and did a little work outside. Thuc came out in the evening…he brought me chocolates and I gave him some flower bulbs.
Sunday brought the usual church attendance. In the evening, five of the group who recently returned from the mission trip to TCM in Austria gave their report. Brought back happy memories.

BECOMING WHAT MICHELLE WAS
Thinking back to the time, over a year ago, when Michelle Obama said that for the first time in her life she was proud of her country, Linden finds that he is becoming quite like she was before the day of her change to one filled with pride.

How can one be proud of the direction that this disaster creating regime is taking our once proud country? How can any person remain supportive of the direction we are being led? What kind of a nutcase can even consider voting for a democrat? Perhaps the following links will assist in educating some.

Now, as primary campaigns set the stage for the general election this November, may be a good time to consider recent happenings.

A big, and surprising for some, was the result of the democrat Senate race in Pennsylvania: Arlen Specter lost even though he had the support of President Obama.

In another less surprising Pennsylvania result, Republican Tim Burns was the loser in a special election. This would have been a really good one to pick up. Maybe in November.

Senator Blanche Lincoln, the incumbent Arkansas democrat, was forced into a runoff election because she failed to garner 50% of the vote.

In a victory for we Tea Party supporters, Republican Rand Paul carried the day in Kentucky to be the Republican Senate nominee.

LINDEN'S LIFE
Today was the last Study Buddy session of the current school year. I liked my student…there is some talk of me working with her again next year. I went to the post office, credit union, and grocery before having a great dinner at church. A study of First John ended the activities for the day. I was pleased to hear that it is possible that Marlin Stutzman may attempt to fill the vacated House seat in Northeast Indiana.

The book of Proverbs is a large collection of mostly two line sayings that address a range of subjects from Adultery to Wisdom. Although three other writers contributed, it was largely written by Solomon. Time spent reviewing this book will not be wasted.

The major portion of the day was spent going to, returning from, or participating in a trip to the heart doctor. I seem to not have fallen away badly in the last year and he wasn’t upset about my adjusting my medicine dosage.

Received a couple of forwarded email messages that I will share the thoughts with you: from Jim…the movie “Corpus Christi” portrays Jesus and his disciples as homosexuals. I, of course, will not view such trash. From Cheryl, a message requesting prayer every night at 9:00 P.M. for our country, our troops, our citizens, and a return to being a Godly country.

BEST NEWS SOURCE
Some one would say (erroneously) that it is a time management thing. For a number of reasons, there was just not adequate time to try to develop anything presented as news into a decent posting. Luckily, Linden did listen to a good bit of the Rush Limbaugh program and, since that is the best source of news anyway, will use some bits from that as the basis for the following words.

Rush mentioned that Congress has been made aware of a number of undesirables (potential terrorists) from a number of countries going to South America, learning Spanish, and then entering our country with groups of other illegals. Surely that appeared in my newspaper and I just failed to see it.

Rush commented on and played a portion of one of the Obama bunch talking about a meeting with the Chinese regarding how the two countries should address human rights. Naturally our guy was quick to point out our weaknesses…especially as it pertains to the stance being taken in Arizona. We are funding too many employees in this area of our government. Too.

Lastly, he mentioned one of the democrat Congressmen saying that the problems with Fanny and Freddie were just too big to address. Seems easy enough to Linden.

KAGAN
It hasn’t been that many days since Elena Kagan became Obama’s Supreme Court nominee and already Linden is more than a little sick of hearing about her pleasant personality and her ability to sway others to her viewpoint. The questions are: has she read the Constitution; does she understand it; and does she support what it stands for? Considering the track record of the one who nominated her, getting the right answer to those questions is doubtful.

Friday brought the Men’s Prayer Breakfast at church at 6:00. They put stone on the lane and driveway today but not on the walkway between the drive and the entry door. Will need to accomplish that. In the evening, I stumbled upon some notes from my pilgrimage in Spain almost five years ago…enjoyed reviewing them. Saturday, Lindsay fixed a great breakfast at Kingsway and later I attended a writers group meeting. Sunday brought church, Sunday school, brunch and church again in the evening.

TAX AND SPEND CRAZY
For months there has been story after story about the ill effects of your government spending more than it can afford. Stories of the huge debt we owe China. Stories about the lack of positive effect gained due to Stimulus spending. And on, and on, and on, and on. Our first link below brings you a glimpse of the latest and possibly worst of the schemes to extract money from you and ultimately to send you to the poor house. Kerry and Lieberman must have no shame.

The second link brings us an effort by the Republicans to focus attention on some of the wild spending our congress considers and often approves. The third and fourth links bring up other examples of distorted liberal thinking (or is it feeling?) Luckily, the music link returns us to a bit of sanity.

CHANGE IS COMING
If you are a regular reader of this blog, you know that Linden is almost violently opposed to the “throw all incumbents out” line of thinking. Consider that the forces of evil (democrats) were very solid in their support of every effort that a thinking person would be opposed to and that the forces for good (Republicans) were almost unanimous in their opposition to these same matters. Saying this, does not mean that Linden believes that all Republicans should be retained but, for heavens sake, use some judgment.

The following links bring us what could be good news regarding this general matter. Alan Mollohan the West Virginia democrat who is widely considered to be one of the more corrupt House members, was defeated in the primary. The long tenured Utah Republican, Senator Bennett, never made it out of their caucus. That, too, is probably not all bad. And the upcoming Virginia Republican primary allows us some hope that the right choice will be made. Maybe this is the start of meaningful Hope and Change.

The last non-musical link addresses to some extent the cancerous anti Constitution mindset of many of those associated with the Ivy League type schools of “higher learning.” Perhaps our admiration should be more directed toward those such as the University of Idaho. They bring us those such as Sarah Palin.

These 150 Hebrew song-poems were written by several authors with David being the most prominent and prolific. They fall into several different categories: thankfulness, praise, repentance, trust and worship being the most prominent.

Although written hundreds of year before the coming of Jesus Christ, There are several references to his coming. Read Psalm 22 for a very good example of this.

When Linden posted “IMPEACHABLE?” ON April 27, he had no idea that just such a thought had crossed the mind of any other person. Apparently he should have considered the possibility more seriously. He just stumbled upon the video linked below and found it quite interesting although, once again, he has no idea where it may lead. It is well worth looking at.

UNITY BREAKFAST
Now that the primary election is over and November’s candidates have been selected, our Hendricks County Republican Chairman, Mike O’Brien, hosted a Unity Breakfast this past Saturday. Great idea! And, a very good breakfast at Prestwick Country Club.

In addition to Mike, speakers were: Dan Coats, our Senatorial candidate, Todd Rokita, our 4th District House candidate, Brian Bosma, Indiana House Republican Leader, Jim Baird, of Putnam County who is running for an Indiana House seat, and Bob Heaton, of Vigo County who is also running for an Indiana House seat.

Also in attendance were some that were merely interested and a number of successful and unsuccessful candidates who ran in the primary election. The words spoken were met with appreciation and it was a successful event.
Mike promised that those of us in Hendricks County will attempt to help Jim Baird and Bob Heaton in their important races. The winning party in November will draw the District boundaries which will be in effect for the next ten years. It is important that these two, and other Republicans, are elected. In spite of winning the popular vote by a large margin, the Republicans, thanks to the other party drawing the Districts, were in the minority in the Indiana House. The State suffered because of this.

Friday was the day for our Men’s Prayer Breakfast at church and Saturday brought the Unity Meeting as mentioned above.
Sunday started with church and Sunday school services followed by brunch with friends. As I was leaving church, I talked for just a minute to Ron and our Minister, Steve. They returned from a session at Haus Edelweiss in Austria the night before. My friends, Kevin and Dimi, sent a box of wonderful chocolate to me by Steve.
I decided against going to the college graduation of Long Phan, the son of my friend, Thuc, but did meet with those two, sister and daughter, Dr. Jennifer, and Bob and Pati, friends from work days, at a Greek restaurant in Indianapolis. Had a very nice time…it is always good to see old friends. It was starting to get dark when I arrived back home. Good weekend!

CORONA BEER DAY
Linden has never completed a thorough study of Mexican history so was quite surprised to hear Rush Limbaugh say that Cinco de Mayo is not a holiday in Mexico and that, of all things, the celebration of the day has a link to advertising genius. It seems that the makers of Corona beer started the whole thing. Surprised me! I believe it has been said that our white President, The Corpseman, referred to the day as Cinco de Quatro…this is why Linden refers to him as our “white”…we do not want the blacks to feel wholly responsible for his gaffes.

I found Ward’s May 6 and May 5 postings at http://www.doerbitter.com/ to be very interesting. You will too.

INDIANA PRIMARY ELECTION
There were, from Linden’s point of view, no major surprises or disappointments in the outcome of the May 4 Indiana Republican primary election. There were some chosen that were not the first choice of Linden but he has absolutely no qualms about supporting those who were chosen.

What Linden did find somewhat disappointing was the number of voters who were willing enough to lower (or maintain) their standards to identify themselves as democrats. Can you imagine! With the sad and dangerous for America record of the current democrat national leadership how can one say, “I want to be one of them”? Beats me!

LINDEN'S LIFE:
The Study Buddy session went well enough today. Following that, I went by the post office, a store, and had biscuits and gravy with coffee at Chick-fil-A. Good! In the late afternoon, went to the Middle School county track meet…got very tired and didn’t make it all the way through. Missed dinner and the program at church.

JOB
There is uncertainty regarding when and by whom the book of Job was written. He was extremely wealthy and had seven sons and three daughters. He was a Godly man.

Satan told The LORD that he could turn Job into a sinner. The LORD disagreed and allowed Satan to try. Job lost his family and his wealth and was afflicted with horrible pain. Still he believed.

His friends accused him of being responsible, through some sin, for the problems that had came upon him. He disagreed. At the end, Job, realizing how small he was in comparison to GOD, regained the favor of the Lord and his wealth plus another seven sons and three daughters were provided to him. He happily lived for another 140 years.

LINDEN'S LIFE
In both the morning and afternoon did just a little bit of work outside…got tired. In the evening, Kent picked me up and we went to Danville to check on the Hendricks County election results. We returned to Plainfield before all the results were posted. A subject for another day.

IMMIGRANTS
Linden has been pleased to count a small number of legal immigrants among his friends. Without exception they have been proud and supportive of their new country and consider it to be vastly superior to their previous homeland. Generally speaking, it took them longer than ten years and cost them a fairly large sum of money to become citizens.

Recently Arizona passed a law that enabled that state to enforce the laws that the federal government would not enforce. Not surprisingly the democrats and their blind followers, the MSM, found fault with their entirely lawful endeavor. The usual cry of “RACIST” was and is their usual charge. They are a disgrace!

There are some things that could and should be changed in regard to allowing immigrants to become citizens…surely merely being born here to an illegal immigrant should not convey citizenship to the child.

Linden believes that Indiana should follow the good example that Arizona set and, further, also believes that Rush Limbaugh was correct when he said that Arizona should pay bus fare for those illegals who wish to move to San Francisco.

Went to another eighth grade track meet in the late afternoon…I go to compare the 100 meter hurdles running time here with that of Alison in Ohio. Brian sent me some video clips of her running and one of her playing soccer. Nice!

LINCOLN DAY DINNER

LINCOLN DAY DINNER
It is a common practice for every county in Indiana to have a yearly Lincoln Day Dinner where current Republican matters are presented and emphasis is placed on our great Republican President. Sunday, May 2, was the date for the event in Hendricks County.

It was well attended, probably over 300 people, and a great assortment of candidates running in the May 4 primary were on hand. The food and fellowship were great with the opportunity to visit with a large number of people that one does not see all that often.

Becky Skillman, our impressive State Lieutenant Governor was the speaker and Linden sincerely hopes she will be our next Governor.
Before the event started, some of us had the opportunity to have our picture taken with Becky and to share a few thoughts…she remembered me from our meeting almost two years ago. Perhaps there will be a way to share the picture with you.

The event closed with the presentation of the Gentry Award, which denotes the male and female Republican of the year. About 15 or so years ago Linden was the recipient of that award. This was a good event.

LINDEN'S LIFE
On Friday, Sandi came by and cleaned my place a bit while I was at Men’s Prayer Breakfast and I joined friends at Kingsway Church for the same type of meeting of Saturday.

Sunday brought church services and Sunday school in the morning. Julie and Jade came by for a few hours afterward…Julie had been in Indianapolis for a few days for a business convention. We took Jade to a nice park where she performed many trips down the slides and we spent some time swinging her. It was fun! She had her second birthday on Saturday. We picked up some food and went back to my place to continue our visit. Great time!! As is mentioned above, went to the Lincoln Day Dinner in the evening.
