MATTHEW 22:1 - 22:46

Jesus, in a parable, told of a king who had prepared a wedding feast for the invited guests (the Jewish leaders) and the guests did not come to the feast. So, the king had his servants invite the common people from on the streets. One of those who came was not properly prepared and was thrown out: “For many are invited, but few are chosen.”

The Pharisees and Sadducees attempted to trap Jesus into making a verbal mistake: they failed. He instructed them on the greatest commandments and other matters to the point that they had no more questions.

Friday: Men’s Prayer Breakfast at 6:00 during which Steve reviewed Ephesians 3:14-19. I believe from those verses one could construct their own prayer format. Later, I did a bit of repair work at home. In the afternoon, Dan and Diana did some tree trimming around my abode and then came in for a short visit.

Saturday: went to the grocery and the post office. Had a couple of church related involvements and worked a bit on a project.

Sunday: church, Sunday school, brunch with friends and then had a very enjoyable talk with Brian. Bob and Gretchen DeVoe were here from Lifeline Christian Mission in Haiti…we had a pitch-in dinner followed by their presentation…both were very good.

CANDIDATE SELECTION

While listening to Mark Davis, who was filling in on the Rush Limbaugh radio show, Linden followed his directions of inquiring on “candidate Selector” and inquiring further on one of the sites that is provided. Although the sites were found, the response was either terribly slow or non-existent. Perhaps his mention had caused a rush of inquiries.
He said some of the group that is known for blindly voting for the democrats were amazed at the results they were shown by the selector.

TEA PARTY TIME

Until Monday night, Linden had not been to a Tea Party event for close to two years even though he feels strongly that it is a most worthwhile effort. Because of having one of his attacks of weakness, he had to leave the earlier one early.

The one Monday night was enjoyable, Paul picked me up so we could attend together. Our 4^th District Congressman, Todd Rokita, was the principal speaker and did a fine job of covering his activities and answering questions. He mentioned that every day after July 27^th is funded with borrowed money. That is sad. He mentioned one of his bills (which he said will probably never pass) that is exactly what I would desire: the baseline budget instead of being increased every year would actually start being reduced a small percentage every year. Music to my ears!

Surely it is desirable to get rid of every Congressional democrat as well as identifying those Republicans who are not there to serve the people and replace them, as well.

MATTHEW 21:1 - 46

When Jesus entered Jerusalem as prophesied, a very large crowd honored him as he rode. After entering the city, he drove those who were buying and selling out of the temple and also healed those who were blind and lame. He then went out of the city to spend the night.

On the way back into the city the next day, he used a fig tree as an example of faith. The chief priests and the Pharisees questioned Jesus and he told them two parables: the second suggested that since the Jews were rejecting Jesus, he would be offered to others. They were not happy with his answers.

I dropped off my recyclables, went to the post office, and back by the church. Paul came by for me and we had lunch at Steak and Shake: I got caught up regarding Chuck’s funeral and he (Paul) on the meeting with Richard Mourdock. I remembered that I had neglected to say in my Tuesday blog posting that I understood Mr. Mourdock to say that he favored the use of a consumption tax to equalize the tax burden. I also favor that means. Later, at home, I addressed a couple of things that I had been neglecting. More effort remains.

RICHARD MOURDOCK

Monday was Linden’s first opportunity to speak to Richard Mourdock at any length since the Republican State Convention before his first term as Indiana State Treasurer. He is now opposing Richard Lugar in the current race to be the Senator from Indiana.

Luckily, I was one of the group invited by Kent to meet with Mr. Mourdock on Monday morning. He is still as impressive as he was those few years ago. In this posting, rather than attempting to quote Mr. Mourdock verbatim, I’ll state Linden’s position on a few items mentioned by him and/or some of the attendees and say that I believe that Mr. Mourdock’s position mirrors my own.

Regulatory agencies are strangling business.

The 17^th Amendment and Federal Reserve act of 1913 should be repealed.

When elected, Mr. Mourdock will continue to live in Evansville.

The present energy policy is a disaster.

Chuck picked me up at about 10:45 to attend Kent’s meeting. Following that we went for a spot of lunch at Panera Bread. He took me by the book store where I had ordered an item…they could find no record of the order. Shortly after I returned home, the book store called and said they had found the item. So, I went by the post office, the credit union, and the book store again and all was well for the day. For dinner, I fixed fresh tomatoes with cottage cheese, and ear of corn, and two donuts that I had picked up at Kent’s.

TRUST

As we all know, trust is something that is usually, but not always, earned over a long period of time. Today, we will talk about trust as it pertains to our own President, Barack Obama. Friday: attended Men’s Prayer Breakfast at 6:00. Not much else.

Saturday: attended breakfast meeting at Kingsway at 7:30 and a writers group meeting at 10:00. Later, took the car for a car wash at Chick-fil-A conducted by church members to benefit a seriously ill 10 year old girl.

Sunday: attended church and Sunday school, went to the grocery. At 4:00 went to the Chuck Walter calling…he was a good guy and thankfully did not suffer as long as many do. At 5:00 went to a pitch-in dinner given for Jill Shaw, a missionary in New Zealand. She gave a very nice talk.

A WELL DESERVED VACATION?

Apparently, and not surprisingly, the recent taxpayer funded bus tour campaign extravaganza so completely exhausted our President that he just has to take another vacation. From Linden’s standpoint, mouthing platitudes was the principal activity of the President on this taxpayer funded campaign tour. Of course, that is a repeat. The good news is that one of these days he is intending to say something about job creation. Again.

Linden can not at this time bring you a lot of news regarding the vacation… it is safe to say that it will be taxpayer unfriendly.

On Thursday, we had our usual breakfast meeting…Jack was absent but Wayne attended for the first time. At 11:30, the Golden Glows had their usual monthly meeting, a pitch-in. Delicious food and a very good program concerned with memories of our fourth grade classes. Later, I took my car back to the repair shop…it runs much more quietly now.

HOW BAD WOULD YOU HAVE TO BE?

If you could believe polls, and of course we all know that you can not, it would appear that Obama has an approval rate of 39% and his rate of approval in New Jersey and New York has fallen to new lows. Since Linden is not aware of any single thing he has accomplished or supported that is worthy of approval (please advise if you are aware of something) it is an absolutely mind boggling event to suspect that these approval ratings are valid.

Of course we are aware that the educational system has largely failed to really teach well almost any worthwhile subject or belief system and that a too high percentage of parents have failed as miserably as the school systems. But this reported level of ignorance simply cannot be factual. If it were factual, the title of this piece would be, “HOW DUMB CAN YOU BE”?

MATTHEW 20:1 - 34

Jesus tells the parable of the workers in the vineyard: the owner hires workers early in the day and four more times throughout the day. At the end of the work day, he paid each of them the same amount and those who had worked the most hours grumbled. He explained that they had agreed to work for the wage offered and that he had the right to pay those hired later the same amount if he so chose.

Jesus again tells the disciples of his approaching death and resurrection. The mother of two of the disciples asked that her sons be seated at either side of Jesus in his kingdom…he explained that it was up to the Father to determine seating arrangements. As they are leaving Jericho, Jesus restored sight to two blind men.

NO PHONES IN THE WHITE HOUSE?

As the President some of you voted for goes on and expensive, taxpayer funded bus tour to learn about jobs and what people are thinking, that some think is nothing other than political campaigning, it seems like if he was a good manager he could have accomplished it all in the White House.

Considering that he could have asked for questions on these subjects be directed to a White House telephone number and that he has at his beck and call over 30 “czars” and Michelle’s 20 person strong band of personal helpers, would it have not been taxpayer friendly to do it this way??? Oh my, Linden forgot that Obama is not taxpayer friendly!

On Monday I went to the post office, auto repair shop, book store, and saw Lynn at Pier 14. Listened to the Greg Garrison radio show: presidential candidate Herman Cain provided a very good interview as did authors Mark Steyn and Ann Coulter. Later, Dan dropped by for a visit and coffee. In regard to the “Obama voters” link above, did it not appear to you that these people belong very nicely in a thought-stunted crowd that chants “Obama, Obama, Obama” over and over? Talked to Brian for a while. In the evening, went to a Capital District Christian Men’s Fellowship meeting.

POLITICALLY, IT'S STILL EARLY

Well, the Iowa Straw Poll was held this past Saturday and Michele Bachmann emerged as the winner of this rather limited voter participation affair. In related matter, Rick Perry garnered enough write-in votes to finish sixth and, the following day, Tim Pawlenty, who finished third, announced that he was abandoning his campaign. Perry has now announced that he is a candidate but was not listed on the ballot. Linden believes that there may well be other Republican candidates who will announce. On the democrat side, there is some talk of finding a primary opponent for Obama.

Sunday: went to church and Sunday school and on to brunch with friends. At church, Carol Fields brought me a package that a worker at Haus Edelweiss in Austria had brought back for me: it was from Kevin and Dimi and contained two jars of marmalade. I sampled both on toast after supper. In the afternoon, Kent brought me some tomatoes, potatoes, and onions from his garden. Looks like I eat this coming week.

BUS TOURS AND RIOTS

Apparently learning from the leadership of Sarah Palin, President Obama has announced that he also is taking a bus tour. From Linden’s standpoint, the major difference is that Palin pays for hers and we taxpayers pay for his. He announced that he would be speaking on jobs and the economy…two areas where he has displayed little competence. Maybe he has recently taken a course to learn planning.

Ann Coulter is a gifted writer and this talent is displayed again in the link to one of her articles below. There can be little doubt that this situation is fueled by a welfare state. We are in danger!

PRETTY GOOD ELECTION RESULTS

The democrats spent money like crazy in their effort to regain control of the Wisconsin Senate…mostly to no avail. They had filed recall petitions against six Republican State Senators and were successful in only two instances…neither loss was a surprise. Next Tuesday the Republicans will have their chance to unseat two democrats…regardless, the Republicans will retain control of the Senate there. Considering the actions of democrats when they abandoned their responsibility to be in attendance at their most recent legislative session, Linden finds it somewhat disheartening that the democrats would find any support in Wisconsin.

Wednesday brought me a lost opportunity and I feel badly about it: while waiting for my breakfast order at Chick-fil-A a young girl came in and asked for an employment application. I spoke to her and asked how she was doing…she said that she was tired, had rode her bicycle 22 miles from Amo and had been looking for a job…said she had to have work. She had a broken ankle. After she left on her bicycle I realized that I should have asked if she had eaten and bought her food if the answer was no. I wish I had done more than merely being pleasant.

Once again, Jesus healed those who were in a large crowd following him. Answering the question of some Pharisees, Jesus spoke of divorce and adultery. Again he mentioned to the disciples that heaven is made up of those like little children. After speaking to a rich young man, Jesus explained to the disciples how difficult it is for a rich man to enter heaven.

On Tuesday, my computer wouldn’t work when I got up so I didn’t get my blog posted until much later than usual. I called Jack and got the information about the repair service he uses, went there and was very favorably impressed. He checked it out and said that it was probably my printer interfering with the start-up routine. So, when hooking it back up, I didn’t connect the printer and that seemed to solve the problem.

WHAT NOW PASTOR?

Granted, Linden almost never watches network news, does not have access to cable channels, and receives the daily paper only four days a week. So, where does he go to become knowledgeable regarding events such as the race riots in Wisconsin? Even the internet columnists had little to say on the matter.
More importantly, how does a responsible society address a serious matter which involves large groups of black racists? Linden does not have the answer…perhaps the area affected in Wisconsin has groups of black pastors, such as is quick to seek news coverage in Indianapolis, that are quickly aware of perceived white on black racism. Ask them. Be prepared to find that they are often part of the problem.

OBAMA WINS AGAIN

Following his incredible performance in his race to be the first President to oversee the development of a trillion dollar budget deficit (at present it appears that he will continue to set difficult to break records in this area,) the first half-white President has become a trend setter in another related area.

President Obama has won in the race to be the first President to implement a credit downgrade for out country. What a competitor!

Friday: Men’s Prayer Breakfast at 6:00. Went to the post office and the grocery. Brenda called…is doing pretty well with her cancer fight.

Saturday: Prayer breakfast at Kingsway at 7:30. In the afternoon, I went to the fish fry at the Methodist church. They had a rock type band that played “Sweet Home Alabama.” Brian and his band used to play that and I kinda like it. I had been listening to an opera so it was quite a contrast.

Sunday: Slept poorly. Went to church but instead of attending Sunday school, came home and took a nap. Had a very good music concert at church in the afternoon…two bluegrass bands and a male quartet. Brian called after I returned home.

IT AIN'T FAIR

It was reported that on Wednesday night over 100 people paid over $35,000.00 each to have dinner with President Obama. It was reported on Thursday evening that the Dow had closed down over 500 points…the largest daily loss in almost three years. Are these super hungry dinner attendees betting that they will be reimbursed in some manner by another “stimulus” affair…or could they have already been paid? Regardless, Linden is poorer on paper than he was before the Obama birthday celebration…he (Obama) can’t age fast enough.

On Thursday I had breakfast with the other four guy at 8:00. Later, went to the post office (twice), the credit union, two groceries and by the church. Then, I lazed around the house the rest of the day. I am so worthless!

FAA, SENATE STOP WORKING

Perhaps this posting title would be more absolutely correct if it had said some of the FAA had stopped working. It seems that after all the hard work involved with the recent debt related legislation, it was time for the Senate (probably the House too) to take a roughly five-week vacation. They earned it…right?

Unfortunately for the 4,000 affected FAA employees the vacation interfered with the Senate having time to adequately address a House bill concerned with airports and airport management. Harry Reid is a heck of a leader…right?

Wednesday gave me the opportunity to go to Chick-fil-A for biscuits and gravy (coffee of course.) I stopped by the post office and church and then went home…I was a little unsteady today and did even less than usual.

UPDATED DEBT BILL THOUGHTS

As Linden composed this, the final results of Congressional action required to move the “agreement” forward had not yet been publicized. Linden has mixed, probably predominately negative thoughts about this bill. These include: the Bush tax cuts could expire, worry about further defense cuts, and, probably worst of all, blessing Obama with the ability to probably waste another 2.4 TRILLION dollars. Any idea how large that number is? Preferable to this would be the adoption of the debt increases allowed during the Reagan administration…multiple relatively small increases.

On Monday, I only stirred out to pick up my mail…perhaps the reason for me feeling so lethargic is the excitement associated with seeing each of my children over the weekend. Did some reading, little writing, and received a politically oriented call from Kent and sent out some e-mails in that regard.

BUDGET PROBLEM HAPPINESS UNLIKELY

Considering that Linden wanted the current debt ceiling to not be raised, the costs of government to be reduced immediately and continuing (not spread over a fake ten-year period), and for no tax increase, it appears that there is little chance he will be completely happy. He may be completely miserable.
As the “negotiations” continue interminably, the word “compromise” is bandied about with increasing frequency. This is particularly true of Reid and Obama…please remember that the word stands for surrendering responsibility to the budget wreckers or, more aptly, non-producers.
From Linden’s standpoint, the one thing to be pleased about is that the Tea Party influence in the 2010 election has halted the usual mad rush to compromise. If this debacle concerns you, think about actively supporting those who oppose the incumbents who are, and have been, actively wedded to compromise and reaching across the aisle.

LINDEN’S LIFE
Friday: Men’s Prayer Breakfast and Brian came to see me at 8:00…he had a mid-morning business meeting in Indianapolis. We had intended to go get him some breakfast but, as he wasn’t hungry, so we just had a nice visit. Sandi had cleaned my place while I was at MPB so it was somewhat nicer than usual for Brian’s visit.
Saturday: Thuc had a gathering at his place, which I attended. I got to apologize to Jennifer for not being able to attend her wedding and Long, Thuc’s son was also there…he had just finished his first Navy training and is preparing to start Seal training. It was Thuc’s birthday and also the 36^th anniversary of his coming to the U.S. after escaping from Viet Nam.
Sunday: church, Sunday school and a meeting regarding our upcoming bluegrass concert next Sunday. Julie and Jade came by for a nice visit after the NASCAR race was over…Julie went to it as part of a business related affair. Jade had noticeably grown since I last saw her three months ago. She is a real cutie! We played some T-ball outside, watched a movie, and just generally had a good time.
